I went to Tokeiji temple to see Japanese Hydrangea-Vine that is opened to the public only in the beginning of June every year.
Hydrangeas were also beautiful.
Many of them weren’t fully bloomed.
But the best time to see them is coming soon.
Iris garden behind the Buddha statue was best time to see.
Iwatabako – one of the most popular flowers in this temple – was beautiful this year, too.
At last I went to the main hall to see Japanese Hydrangea-Vine.
This is the entrance.
Throw money into an offertory box and pray.
Then go to the left.
Passage led to the Japanese Hydrangea-Vine.
It climbs using aerial roots and can attain a height of over 6m and even up to 12 m in its native habitat.

When I went out of the temple, there was a long queue!
They came to see Japanese Hydrangea-Vine.
To avoid congestion , you should come early in the morning especially in June when many people visit Kamakura.

Hydrangea at Tokeiji temple in Kamakura was fully bloomed.
Kamakura is a city in Kanagawa Prefecture,once it was a political capital along with Nara and Kyoto.
It makes an easy day trip from Tokyo.
Many people visit Kamakura throughout the year.
But in June it become more popular because beautiful hydrangeas are fully bloomed in many temple, shrine and tourist sights.
Tokeiji temple is one of these beautiful place.
It was founded in 1285 by a nun named Kakusan Shidō-ni.
In a feudal age where women normally couldn’t initiate a divorce, this temple was a sanctuary where women fled to break ties.
This is Sanmon gate.
Pay an admission fee at the counter in here and go through the gate.
You can pay it by Suica card or Pasmo card,too.
Guidance written in Japanese,English,Chinese and Korean.
Shoro(belfry) on the left side of the entrance.
There was the public lavatory on the right side of the entrance.
It looks like an Japanese traditional style building.
You can see the various kinds of hydrangea in the garden.
The best time to see hydrangea in here is from the mid to the end of June.
This temple isn’t well-known compared to other famous places such as Hase temple, Meigetsuin temple.
So it wasn’t so crowded compared to them.
Behind the Buddha statue there was an iris field.
Iwatabako were fully bloomed on the rock.
It is one of the most famous flower in this temple.

Adults : 200yen
Junior high / Elementary school students : 100yen
You can pay it by Suica card,too.

5 minutes walk from Kita Kamakura station of JR line.
